Not merely a description of corpulent character Pruitt Taylor Vince, the title refers to the leaden atmosphere hanging over a roadside cafe and its inhabitants. Writer-director James Mangold finds significance in the details of life, giving this touching story an authenticity that keeps us involved. Liv Tyler brings poignancy to the story as a college dropout who helps awaken the introverted and depressed Vince. Unfortunately, this fascinating character study is too often undermined by direction slow enough to be leaden. Happily, even the most stolid camera work cannot undermine the desires and insecurities of the main character, a man yearning for a full life but too afraid too take a chance. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Hunters point, Radioactive

Hunters point, Radioactive

This was the last place i passed that was not radioactive. Hunters point was the base for the nations nuclear home defense research. It is now a superfund site with an intensive cleanup in progress. This place is completely insane, the entire perimeter is surrounded by sprinklers to keep the radioactive dust down, and there are water trucks that do nothing but drive around all day shooting thirty foot jets of water in every direction, as i rode through what was left of the streets i would constantly encounter these water trucks, they would stop the blast just long enough to let me pass. at one point I came across a check point where there was a table full of geiger cointers. the heavy equipment operators use them to sweep their tractors for radioactive material of an unnaceptably high level and then clean it off, ensuring that the city is not contaminated. there are tractors everywhere moving piles of rubble seperating materials and demolishing unsalvagable buildings. there are also hundreds of car sized sealed drums marked radioactive waste. I treated every basin I could find and talked to as many people as possible. this is without a doubt one of the coolest things i have seen on this job.

machinery lifting equipment - The 2009-2014

The 2009-2014 World Outlook for Parts and Attachments for Mining Machinery and Equipment for Lifting, Handling, Loading, and Unloading Machinery for Underground Mines Excluding Drill Bits

The 2009-2014 World Outlook for Parts and Attachments for Mining Machinery and Equipment for Lifting, Handling, Loading, and Unloading Machinery for Underground Mines Excluding Drill Bits

This econometric study covers the world outlook for parts and attachments for mining machinery and equipment for lifting, handling, loading, and unloading machinery for underground mines excluding drill bits across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-a-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for parts and attachments for mining machinery and equipment for lifting, handling, loading, and unloading machinery for underground mines excluding drill bits. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business.

Forklift

Forklift

This is the Forklift i use on occasion.
Make is Yale, model: Super Excel, its about 20 odd years old.
It has a 3600kg lifting capacity to about 30feet with a 42 inch load centre.
It is capable of lifting a lot more but due to its 7foot forks the load centre is increased in turn reducing its overall capacity too 3600kg... its all to do with balance you see.
Under the seat is aproximatly 8 tonnes of lead acid battery.
This one features a side shift, kind of handy when manoevering with long forks like these. Sometimes the power steering actually works.

This machinery operated the lifts which carried miners down into the mine. The operator's platform is visible on the far right. There were two levels on the platform that must have been used to operate the machine. I also noticed some type of distance gauge that was probably used by the operator to know when to stop the lift so the minor's could safely get off.

The 2011 Report on Parts and Attachments for Mining Machinery and Equipment for Lifting, Handling, Loading, and Unloading Machinery for Underground ... Drill Bits: World Market Segmentation by City

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "parts and attachments for mining machinery and equipment for lifting, handling, loading, and unloading machinery for underground mines excluding drill bits" for the year 2011. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales.

Tanddifforddwyr 1912 Firefighters

Tanddifforddwyr 1912 Firefighters

A gradual increase in population and also an increase in the number of buildings came about; these new buildings were built to cater for the needs of the holidaymaker, new boarding houses, garages, cinemas, etc.

The town’s responsible property owners, with these new buildings in mind, felt the dire need of securing a fire brigade in case a serious fire should break out.

To form and train such a force was obviously no mean feat and an experienced and capable person had to be found to take the initiative.

This was found in the person of Sergeant John F. Evans, and with the blessing of the Chief Constable Richard Jones, on February 22nd 1912 Sergeant Evans took up the position as Instructor to the Brigade.

Training began almost immediately with the volunteers undergoing basic training under the energetic leadership of Sergeant John Evans.

They underwent a number of practical drills in the manipulation of a few appliances which the Urban Council had provided.

The volunteers also at this time, put to the practical test the power of the hydrants in the Main Street and on Marine Parade, which proved the total inadequacy the existing arrangements for combating any serious fire which might occur in Barmouth or the vicinity. The truth of the matter being that any fire of any magnitude in any of the high buildings, e.g. Marine Parade, would have been disastrous because, without some mechanical power to force water to the requisite height and distance, the firemen could have had difficulty to combat the spread of such a fire.

The town was therefore asked to contribute towards a new fire engine, as this

was an indispensable part of the equipment used.

Town Council discussed at length, in committee, the tenders up-to-date steam fire engine, and it was decided to accept Messrs. Merryweather and Sons, cost ?330.00, according to terms

Sometime in May 1912 the for supplying an the tender of submitted.

To house such a-new machine an old coach house owned by Mr. Rose at Graigfach was rented at an annual rental of ?5.00. Sergeant Evans saying it was a very satisfactory place for storing the engine.

Two applicants at this time were appointed as members, these were:

Mr. Johnny Jones, Llechigleision & Mr. R. Davies, 2 Glasfor Terrace.

To compliment the new machine, members of the brigade began collecting subscriptions etc. towards procuring uniforms and also for new branches and hoses etc.

Sergeant Evans reported in June 1912 that the fixing of a standard pipe, coupling together and laying three lengths of hose, each measuring 50 foot, took four men exactly 15 seconds, which compared favourably with the average 13 seconds obtainable in competitions between brigades of long standing.

During September 1912 Merryweather said there would be a delay in supplying the fire engine due to labour troubles in their factory; the next date of delivery would be late September.

It was also in September that fireman Evan Richards burnt his arms trying to save the life of a little boy who had accidentally set himself alight with a lighted candle, unfortunately the boy died.

In October the Council decided to insure all members of the Brigade and also supply a hydrant stand pipe. The new machine arrived on October 17th, the surveyor finding it in perfect order, and it was also decided to have a formal demonstration to be held on Saturday at 2.00 p.m. at Victoria Road, at the front of the Cors-y-Gedol Hotel.

During December 1912 it was decided that any new applications for membership of the Brigade be made to a joint-committee composed of five representatives of the Council and five of the Brigade. The Brigade could pick their own
officers but not the Chief Officer. In January 1913 Council had appointed the following Councillors to represent them on Committee:

Cllrs. D.O.Hughes

Owen Williams

Henry Freeman

Rhys Jones.

Late January saw the Brigade's first major fire. The men, under the leadership of Sergeant John F. Evans called to Cilwart Ucha Farm, but the fire had got a strong hold on the building but the Brigade prevented the fire spreading. The building was burnt to the ground, seven tons of hay destroyed.
